Well, the adults were so why not?. I came back with pages of notes and shaped it into a script. Yes, it is unusual. And how did the audience react?

Some of them were beside themselves, others didn't know what to do or where to look, were they allowed to enjoy this book? It was not always clear, and for that, I was disappointed.

Huge congratulations on your recent award Julie! It won the Queensland Literary Award and Dale was shortlisted for the Crichton Award as a debut book illustrator. Nicki Greenberg is also recognised as a world-class Australian creator of graphic novels. She includes stunning first sketches from the illustrator, Dale Newman, as a foretaste of what is to come. I also have vague ideas for a third book in the series. It was a major project, pages and many more hundreds of drawings — over seven hundred I think it was.

This information helps us design a better experience for all users. Dale sent wads pages to me and to Sue and Erica at Allen and Unwin along the way for feedback. We use this information to create a better experience for all users. I was imagining it would continue in this vein until recently when the book I was writing for YA changed KidGlovz book mind midstream.

Do you find that living in Tasmania also has a direct influence on your work? The kids, well that was interesting.

It is like watching the still frames of a movie. It makes no difference — the keys move up and down and the air is filled with wild music. The classes were worth it. What a marvellous organisation that is!

Hunt's words, including the words that we do not read but were written as story to help direct the illustrator, have worked well with strengthened Newman's narrative, providing a strong, seamless foundation.

The emotive, soft, black and white sketched images tell the story in true graphic novel style. If Sylvie can create life she can take it as well and for a seven-year-old girl this has disastrous consequences. As the story suggests, this is not a pretty tale of fluffy bunnies, loving cuddles or even a sad tale of comforted grief over the loss of a beloved pet.

Huge congratulations on your recent award Julie! For artist Dale Newman, the imagery of KidGlovz was so strangely familiar that drawing it into being was a dream job for her. To learn more about how we use and protect your data, please see our privacy policy.

Just like the athlete or artist, the musician commits to practice at every opportunity to hone their skills and perfect their craft.

The protagonist, KidGlovz is a talented, fragile boy who is being raised for profit rather than nurtured. Email Gay McKinnon to get on the mailing list. Read and write and try things out. Julie actually wrote it as a sequel soon after completing KidGlovz.

Winning the award is heartening.

Julie Hunt, the imagination behind KidGlovz

She's written a three-book series called Little Else about a plucky young cowgirl (ill. Beth Norling), and a graphic novel called KidGlovz (ill. Dale Newman). KidGlovz is a musical genius. His gift is so precious that he's kept under lock and key. But when a young thief helps him escape, Kid must embark on a perilous journey through which he will discover the terrifying nature of his talent%(K).

KidGlovz’ life was a misery. His wonderful musical talent was a curse as well as a gift and this curse/gift idea put me in the realm of folk stories. Around this time I was reading a book set in Romania and I thought I might find the KidGlovz story there, so I went on a walking trip near the Carparthian Mountains.

Nov 23,  · My favourite books include 'Jasper Jones', 'To Kill A Mockingbird' and 'The Lord Of The Rings'. This website contains reviews of books from junior fiction to YA novels and, now, adult reads as well.

I only review books I like, and my brother Book Boy Jr (now 13) also reviews here. The creators of the graphic novel KidGlovz reunite with this illustrated companion novel. KidGlovz told the tale of a young musician so prized that he lived the life of a prisoner—until he met the charming thief and tightrope walker Shoestring.
